Description: What makes a cultural product "Jewish," and what makes it "modern"? This course examines major works of Jewish thought and art from the nineteenth century to the present—fiction, poetry, film, philosophy, and visual art—exploring questions of religion, identity, memory, and the tension between universalism and particularism in modern Jewish culture.
