Description: This course examines the global history of anti-colonial revolution, from the late 18th century to the present. It will engage with questions of revolutionary thought, practice, mobilization, organization, social change, as well as political and economic contestation against colonial and imperial structures and systems. It will also introduce students to the rich theoretical literature on the study of revolutions and anti-colonialism. A variety of major case studies will be considered which may include Haiti, Ireland, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, India, Algeria, Vietnam, Iran and South Africa.
