Description: The aim of this course is to serve as an introduction to the state-of-the-art research in the field of quantum science, with a focus on the fundamental aspects of quantum materials used in these technologies. In particular, it will introduce three types of quantum systems, superconducting, spin, and photonic qubits, implemented in solid-state materials. Concepts such as Josephson junction, single electron transistors, quantum states of light, and cavity quantum electrodynamics will also be introduced to familiarize the students with the current research in this field. Cross-list: MSNE 519. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for MSNE 419 if student has credit for MSNE 519.
