Description: This writing-intensive seminar examines Meiji period (1868-1912) women’s writings and what they tell us about women’s lives and cultural output at the start of Japan’s modern period. We will discuss fiction, speeches, diary entries, and newspaper articles and their historical, cultural, and literary contexts.
