Description: Water and energy are inextricably linked. This course examines their complex relationship, exploring the energy intensity of water management and the water footprint of energy production. Using principles of thermodynamics, mass transfer, electrochemistry, and process modeling, we will analyze case studies, including energy consumption in desalination and brine management, the potential of water electrolysis for hydrogen production, and the role of lithium extraction from brines in a circular economy. The course emphasizes technological advancements and integrated approaches for a secure water and energy future. Cross-list: CEVE 547. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for CEVE 347 if student has credit for CEVE 547.
