Description: An examination of the thought and career of Jefferson set in the context of his time in all its complexity. This course will contextualize Jefferson within the era of the Revolution and the consequent creation and growing into maturity of the new nation, including the writing and ratification of the Constitution, the setting of the new government underway, the evolution of
political parties, the changing role of the presidency, the evolution of the Supreme Court, international events, economic and cultural changes, and the decline of the political era of the so-called Founding Fathers.
