Description: An introduction to the textual and visual study of the Bible by closely comparing some select biblical passages with a wide range of artistic depictions in different medias and geographies, ranging from the late medieval to the modern period. Considers the intersecting discourses of social, economic, cultural, aesthetic, political, and religious contexts within which these interpretations took place, as well as the interdisciplinary methods scholars have used to approach them. Class will feature a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Cross-list: HART 210. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for RELI 210 if student has credit for RELI 330.
