ELEC 487 - IMAGING OPTICS
Long Title: IMAGING OPTICS
Department: Electrical & Computer Eng.
Grade Mode: Standard Letter
Language of Instruction: Taught in English
Course Type: Lecture
Credit Hours: 3
Restrictions: Must be enrolled in one of the following Level(s):
Undergraduate Professional
Visiting Undergraduate
Undergraduate
Prerequisite(s): PHYS 102 OR PHYS 112 OR PHYS 126
Description: The course covers the fundamental properties of light propagation and interaction
with matter under the approximations of geometrical optics and scalar wave optics, as well as the fundamentals of optical microscopy. The course emphasizes a system approach to the analysis and design of optical systems from a user and an engineering perspective, focusing on the physical intuition and underlying mathematical tools, and application of the physical concepts to topical engineering domains such as a selection of microscopy techniques. Students will have direct hands-on experience with optics and optical imaging systems in the classroom. Graduate/Undergraduate Equivalency: ELEC 582. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for ELEC 487 if student has credit for ELEC 582.
