Description: Overview of the Earth's deep interior with an emphasis on dynamical processes and physical properties of the Earth's mantle. Topics include: global energy budget; convective heat transfer; thermal evolution of the Earth; constitutive laws; rheology; seismic velocities; composition, density structure; thermal expansion; thermal conductivity. Taught every other Fall. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for ESCI 543 if student has credit for ESCI 413.
