Description: This course will use the tools of social science to understand how religion shows up on in public life, both in the US and around the globe. Topics include: epistemology and methodology of public religion; how religion shapes views on politics, gender, families, science, race, immigration, education, the workplace; the challenges of religious diversity and crossing sociopolitical divides. Instructor Permission Required.Graduate/Undergraduate Equivalency: SOCI 559. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for SOCI 459 if student has credit for SOCI 559.
