Description: The seminar examines the history, political writings, literature and the arts of the French Caribbean from the beginning of colonization to the present. It will include figures such as Saint-John Perse, Roumain, Cesaire, Fanon, Depestre, Schwarz-Bart, Warner-Vieyra, Glissant, Conde, Chamoiseau, Laferriere, as well as the Caribbean arts and film. Taught in English. Additional work is required at the graduate level. Cross-list: ARCR 578, Graduate/Undergraduate Equivalency: FREN 478.
