Description: Provides an integrated lecture series summarizing current knowledge in cancer biology and integrating current literature with basic concepts. Topics include: statistics of incidence/survival, types of cancer, pathology, the process of carcinogenesis and sources of carcinogens, genetic and epigenetic mechanisms and consequences, cancer progression, metastasis and current treatment options. Students will learn to use online databases to develop independent strategies for analyzing datasets. There will be several writing assignments and in class oral presentations of research articles.
