Description: Japan and the U.S. are connected by a mutual fascination with each other's mass culture,
with each country frequently employing the other as inspiration or cautionary tale. We
will examine selections from anthropological work, juxtaposing it with theoretical readings
on the nature of publics, crowds, and image circulation in general.
