Description: This introductory course examines the complex relationship between art and religion in China (4th - 19th centuries). Through an analysis of painting, sculpture, cave temples, steles, manuscripts, talismans, illustrated prints, and primary sources, we will explore the visual, religious and cultural dimensions of Buddhism and Daoism, and the fluid nature of Chinese culture. Cross-list: ASIA 374, RELI 374, Graduate/Undergraduate Equivalency: HART 574. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for HART 374 if student has credit for HART 574.
