Description: Medical ethics is not confined to the United States or the English-speaking world but has a global, multicultural history. In this course we will study major texts in the history of medical ethics from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe to critically understand the multicultural discourses of medical ethics created by philosophers, religious traditions, and medical practitioners. Topics will include abortion, infanticide, and life care, human experimentation, confidentiality, and medical war crimes during World War II.
