Description: The purpose of this course is to gain a broad understanding of the important problems of contemporary feminist theories in French. We will focus on the interrelated issues of gender, sexuality, race, ethics, language, and power by exploring in depth primary texts in feminist theory. Readings (in English) will include Beauvoir, Irigaray, Djebar, and Brossard. This course specifically intends to expose the fundamentals of French feminist theory as they apply to the broader spectrum of contemporary feminist thought and philosophy.
