Description: An introduction to German history, politics, and culture as mirrored in the history of the old and new German capital. Emerging from the ruins of WW II Berlin became both the capital of Socialism and the display window of the Free World. After the fall of the wall, Berlin is still looking for its role in the center of a reshaped Europe. Readings and discussions encompass fine arts and literature from the 18th century to the present, including film. Taught in English with possible FLAC section. Cross-list: GERM 324.
