Seminar on Islamic history, politics, and culture in the South Asian subcontinent. Topics will include emergence of Indian Muslim society; Muslim responses to colonialism and the movement for Pakistan; and the role of Islam in politics in contemporary India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Requires no prior knowledge of Islam or South Asia.
