ELEC 580 - ADV NEURONAL MODELING&NETWORK

Long Title:
Department: Electrical & Computer Eng.
Grade Mode: Standard Letter
Course Type: Lecture
Credit Hours: 3
Description: ADVANCED NEURONAL MODELING AND NETWORKS ***** Introduction to mathematical techniques used in modeling neurons and neural systems. Includes review of membrane ion channel kinetics, the mathematical characterization of parts of the neuron (e.g., soma, axon, and dendritic tree), vertebrate and invertebrate neuron models, and models of axonal and volume conduction in the medium surrounding the axon. Emphasis on neuron models exhibiting pacing and bursting activity important in central pattern generation. Introduction to natural and artificial neural networks, as well as neuromorphic systems designed using analog CMOS technology. Guest lectures in selected application areas.
