Description: FILM & THEORY ***** This course will concentrate on two areas of Anglo-American film where recent theorizing has been especially lively: (1) Hollywood melodrama and (2) the work of Alfred Hitchcock. We'll cover the full spread of critical approaches to these films (e.g., feminist, pschoanalytic, poststructuralist, neo-historicist), and at the same time try to develop a feel for the detailed internal complexity (and even insight) of the films themselves. ***** INSTRUCTOR: Snow, Ed
