Description: COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY An introduction to the emerging field of bioinformatics. A series of lectures, combined with hands-on exercises will introduce the student to various biologically relevant databases, methods to effectively search the databases, and an overall view of the various aspects of computation biology. The topics to be discussed include sequence comparison, structure analysis, phylogenetics, database searching, microarrays and proteomics. PREREQUISITE: BIOS 301 and knowledge computer operation or permission of instructor.
