Description: BEGINNINGS OF THE LANGUAGE & LITERATURE OF FRANCE ***** This course includes an external history of the French language, an examination of hagiographic literature and the chanson de geste in their cultural and artistic contexts, as well as a bibliographic component to acquaint the students with library tools available for research emphasizing medieval resources but not excluding those for later periods. Students will acquire a reading knowledge of Old French.
