Description: COMPARATIVE SLAVERY FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE PRESENT: AFRICA, ASIA & EUROPE ***** 'Comparative Slavery from Antiquity to the present: Africa, Asia, and Europe.' This course introduces students to the debates on the history of slavery in human society. It will examine case studies in Africa, Asia and Europe and compare the changing nature of slavery over time. The focus will be on a number of comparative themes including: slavery and the state; slavery and gender; slave trades; and slave resistance. Limited enrollment. Not offered 2003-2004.
