Description: COMPARATIVE LABOR HISTORY OF THE AMERICAS ***** 'Comparative Labor History of the Americas.' The history of work and politics among free wage laborers in the Americas in the 19th- and 20th-centuries. We will read studies of workers' experiences during the process of industrialization and urbanization as well as analyses of the creation of unions and progressive political movements. One goal will be to integrate the study of class, gender, and race as we consider workers' live in their homes, neighborhoods, at work, and in politics. We will compare the experiences of Latin America with those of the United States, but no prior background in Latin American history is required. Limited enrollment. Not offered 2003-2004.
