Description: AMERICAN POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT ***** This seminar examines the creation and evolution of American political instituitions using new institutionalism as a theoretical perspective. The logic of new institutionalism focuses on how rules influence the behavior of individual actors, which has important consequences for political outcomes. During the semester, we will explore the impact of political preferences on the development of Congress, political parties, interest groups, and bureaucratic agencies. ***** PREREQUISITE: Permission of instructor required.
