Description: WOMEN & GENDER IN 19TH CENTURY EUROPE ***** Examination of the political and cultural discussions concerning the so-called "Woman Question" in 19th-century Europe. Includes the role of public and private legal rights in republicanism and the early feminist movement, the reformulation of notions of gender equality in the context of 19th-century socialist movements, and the challenges to gender identity posed by cultural modernism at the end of the century. ***** Also offered as HIST 349.
