Description: FEMINIST LITERARY THEORY & CRITICISM ***** We will begin with an overview of themes and practices in feminist literary theory and criticism from the 1970s to the present. Then we will turn our attention to recent work that engages the pressing concerns of feminist theory in the 1990s, work that investigates the shape of gendered subordination and strategies for feminist agency in the contexts both of cultural diversity and of particular women's negotiation of race, class, sexuality, and national identifications (among others). ***** Also offered as ENGL 481.
