Description: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY & LINGUISTIC THEORIES ***** Research methodology & linguistic theories compares and explores the nature of data, argumentation, goals, and assumptions of current theoretical approaches to language and linguistics. Centers on the discussion of general readings and source articles from cognitive, generative, typological, discourse-functional, and sociolinguistic orientations. Emphasizes critical thinking and awareness of the potential benefits and drawbacks of each approach. ***** Prerequisite: LING 300 or permission of instructor. *****
