Description: INTRODUCTION TO THIRD WORLD LITERATURE ***** DISTRIBUTION COURSE GROUP 1 ***** This course surveys new novelistic and literary traditions from Africa, the Caribbean and the Indian subcontinent and pays particular attention to the shared concerns that derive from a common (post) colonial experience: the relationship between the first and the third worlds, between art and politics, between race and culture, between consumerism and community. To provide historical and critical contexts, we will also look at short essaya and film clips. Also offered as SPAN 396.
