Description: THE ANCIENT CITY ***** DISTRIBUTION COURSE GROUP 2 ***** Compare the historian's and social scientist's approach to the emerging preindustrial city. Cities are the products of an interaction of physical and social environments and their histories may reflect their enormous symbolic weight. We use the comparative method to explore general principles of development lurking behind the different faces of ancient urbanism. ***** Also offered as HIST 377.
