Description: MODERN MEXICAN ART ***** This course studies the art of Mexico from Independence (1821) to the present. Primary emphasis will be on twentieth-century art, especially on images created after the Mexican Revolution of 1910-20. A variety of media will be explored, including murals, easel painting, architecture, prints, photography, film, and conceptual art. We will examine the construction of national identity, the debate between national and international currents in art, and the role of public art.
