Description: MAPPING GERMAN CULTURE: SIAMESE TWINS: THE SELF IN MODERN SOCIETY ***** In Robert Musil's novel, "The Man Without Qualities," the metaphor of the Siamese Twins figures the transition into the 'other condition' of existence. In this course we will inquire into the constitution of the self in modern society. How do literary texts and various scientific discourses (de-) construct the self in modern society.
