Description: GENDER AND SOCIETY IN ISLAM ***** This course will examine some features of the legal position and social realities of men and women in the Islamic world. We will discuss the family and sexual ethics, the harem, polygamy, divorce, and eunuchs (who played an important role in both the military and in certain religious institutions) in order to understand how the boundaries of gender have traditionally been drawn.
