Description: NEW RELIGIOUS MOVEMENTS IN AFRICA ***** DISTRIBUTION COURSE GROUP 2 ***** Study of religious, sociological, and political factors leading to the rise of religious movements in Africa, as well as missionary and colonial reactions to them. Includes the movements' relationship to indigenous religions, political praxis, and the focus on "this-worldly" salvation in light of political and economic marginality. ***** Prerequisite: Permission of instructor required. ***** Also offered as RELI 342.
