Description: VIS CULTURE OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD II ***** An introductory survey of the architecture, ceramics, textiles, arts of the book, and mural painting from Egypt to India and Central Asia, beginning in the wake of the Mongol conquests and ending with the Ottoman empire. Focusing on court patronage and produciton, the course examines key buildings and objects through their aesthetic, cultural, religious, and political contexts. Methodological concerns of the field are addressed through an exploration of such themes as iconoclasm, word and image, and cross-cultural influences.
