Description: COMMERCIAL CHINESE ***** The economic development in China since 1976 has dramatically affected the social structures and cultural values. In this course, we will read and discuss the impacts of the economic reform on the contemporary China. The articles/videos/movies covered in this class provide the views of Chinese people who have experienced the changes, their criticism, confusion and success. The topics include development of private enterprise, emergence of banking reforms, Chinese stock market, changing Chinese management practices and foreign trade initiatives. This class will also benefit students who will use Chinese in business and professional settings. The primary emphasis will be placed on speaking fluency and reading competence. The task-based class activities provide students with the opportunities to practice Chinese and familiarize them with the proper etiquette in the business world. ***** PREREQUISITE: CHIN 302, CHIN 311, placement test, or permission of instructor.
