Includes social, cultural, and intellectual history, with emphasis on slavery and the plantation economy, the rise of southern distinctiveness, the Civil War and Reconstruction, sharecropping, political reform, the civil rights movement, the rise of the Sunbelt, southern religion, music, and literature, and the future of southern regionalism.
