Department: History
Grade Mode: Standard Letter
Course Type: Lecture
Credit Hours: 3
Description: THE HELLENISTIC WORLD ***** This course provides an introductory survey to the Hellenistic world (323 B.C.E. to 31 B.C.E.). Alexander the Great's conquests and the resultant spread of Greek culture throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East gave rise to one of the most dynamic periods in Eurasian history. The socio-political history of the age, including an examination of the Classical world and early Roman Mediterranean, provides a framework from which Hellenistic history and cultural features (literary, artistic, architectural, scientific) are detailed. Speical emphasis is placed on cultures and history of the Hellenistic Greek's neighbors, including Iranian, Indian, Phoenician and Latin peoples.
