Description: ETHNIC LITERATURES OF 20TH CENTURY AMERICA ***** This course will serve as an introduction to U.S. Latino/a Literature. We will study the evolution of this literary tradition from its origins in the colonial period, its transformation during the wars of independence from Spain, its second transformation during 19th century American imperialism, and finally its coming of age under the conflicting processes of ethnicity, race, nationalism, language, gender, and citizenship during the 20th century.
