Description: JEWS AND CHRISTIANS IN MEDIEVAL EUROPE ***** Though Jewish and Christian history are often treated as separate fields, over the course of their long co-existence the two communities profoundly affected each other. Their histories are intimately related. This course will study these relations focusing on Jewish communities within the context of Christian Europe. Topics will include settlement and demography, economical situation, legal status, hostility against Jews, Jewish-Christian contacts and images about another, Jewish family and the position of women, communal organizations, social diversity and community life, intellectual and spiritual achievements.
