Includes the emergence of the Bantu, early Christianity and Islam, trans-Saharan trade, the medieval Sudanic empires, statelessness and state formation, Portugal in Africa, the slave trade, South Africa to 1867, the Mfecane, the Sudanic jihads, long-distance trade, and African-European relations in the 19th century.
