Description: ART AS CIVILIZATION ***** This seminar will examine the formative role that definitions of civilization have played in shaping the West in the modern period, and it will pay particular attention to the role that art has been assigned as one of civilization's attributes and agents. Topics will include: the museum, the discipline of art history, war spoils, and iconoclasm. ***** Enrollment is limited to 15.
