Description: This course examines the growth of Christianity from its origins as a Jewish group to a religion in the mid-second century that distinguished itself from Judaism. The focus of the course is on the development of Jesus and Paul in Early Christianity as leaders and founders of religious movements. This class will be taught thematically to evaluate Jesus and Paul in their Jewish contexts and roles in the early church. The class will consider both canonical and non-canonical materials, as well as appropriate secondary literature.
