Description: An introduction to poetry writing through the study of contemporary poets and the writing of poems. The class will pay extensive attention to such elements of poetry as imagery, figurative language, tone, syntax, and form in order to create a vocabulary for students to discuss their own poems. Students' poems will be critiqued by the class in a workshop setting. Course counts toward the English Creative Writing Major Concentration (ECRW). Registration for odd-numbered sections is restricted to students who have declared the Creative Writing Major Concentration (ECRW); registration for even numbered sections is open to all undergraduate students.
