Description: The Biosciences Honors Research Program offers our seniors and advanced juniors the opportunity to perform a two-semester, individual research project in a research laboratory in Biosciences or an approved off-campus site. Students registering for BIOS 401 are expected to take BIOS 402 the following semester. Students are expected to average at least 15 hours of research per week and prepare written and oral presentations intended to develop important science communication skills. Students in BIOS 401 will prepare a research proposal, regular progress reports and an end-of-semester short paper of at least 5 pages or more. BIOS 402 students will update their research proposal, generate regular progress reports, write a senior thesis and give a presentation (oral or poster) at the Rice Undergraduate Research Symposium. This course includes a reserved meeting time for discussion of the preparation of the thesis document and presentation, and related topics. The course meeting pattern reflects only the discussion meeting, the laboratory research schedule should be set by the research advisor in consultation with the student. Repeatable for Credit.
