Description: This course builds foundational understanding of the diverse theoretical traditions of the last half-century that underlie much of the work currently being undertaken in sociology. Theories include: symbolic interactionism, critical theory, structuralism, power and social control, neo-institutionalism, feminist theory, and cultural theory. Evaluation based on papers, memos and seminar participation. Cross-list: SOCI 526. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for SOCI 426 if student has credit for SOCI 526.
