Description: Works by Asturias, Carpentier, Rulfo, Onetti, Vargas Llosa, Cortazar, Fuentes, and others. Examines how Spanish American novelists from the 1940s onward appropriated the techniques of European modernist literature and infused them with new cultural content. Previously offered as SPPO 462. Mutually exclusive. Credit cannot be earned for SPAN 462 if student has previously taken SPPO 462. Recommended prerequisite(s): Advanced Spanish or permission of instructor.
