Description: A seminar on key topics of the study of visual cultures in the medieval and early modern Muslim world focused on specific works of art. Politics of architectural patronage, dissemination of visual languages, calligraphy, "ornament" and figural representation in Islam, cross-cultural exchanges and trans-religious iconographies are among the topics discussed.
