Description: There was a spectacular flowering of Russian culture in the aftermath of the death of Czar Nicholas I (1825-55). Ushered in was a relatively liberal ear which, combined with a powerful natural upsurge, yielded a period of remarkable creativity - noted especially in this course by Russian music. This interdisciplinary course will couple the historical and musical threads of Russian culture.
