Description: This seminar examines the ambition (or lack thereof) of modern art to play an active role during periods of violent conflict. From the French Revolution to the recent disastrous American engagements in the Middle East wars to the never-ending war on terror, artists have produced images that attempt to actively engage in these conflicts. This class will examine the relative successes and failures of art during times of violent revolution and war within the modern era. Cross-list: HART 651. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for HART 351 if student has credit for HART 651.
